3 days in Paris

08/30/2023

Paris is the one city I dreamed of visiting since High School.  If I had just 3 days, I'd want to do the following:

Day 1: Paris Essentials

  • Morning: Eiffel Tower - Start your trip with a visit to the Eiffel Tower. Arrive early to avoid long lines or consider booking tickets in advance to skip the queues. You can either take the elevator to the top for panoramic views or climb the stairs for a unique experience.
  • Lunch: Champ de Mars - Enjoy a picnic lunch at Champ de Mars, the park surrounding the Eiffel Tower.
  • Afternoon: Seine River Cruise - Take a relaxing Seine River cruise to see many of Paris' landmarks from the water. These cruises typically depart from near the Eiffel Tower.
  • Evening: Champs-Élysées and Arc de Triomphe - Stroll down the famous Champs-Élysées avenue, visit luxury shops, and end your day at the iconic Arc de Triomphe. If you're up for it, you can climb to the top for more breathtaking views of the city.

Day 2: Art and History

  • Morning: Louvre Museum - Spend your morning exploring the Louvre Museum, home to thousands of art pieces, including the Mona Lisa. Plan your visit well, as the Louvre can get crowded.
  • Lunch: Le Marais - Head to the Le Marais district for lunch. This historic area is known for its charming streets, boutiques, and cafes.
  • Afternoon: Notre-Dame Cathedral and Île de la Cité - Visit the stunning Notre-Dame Cathedral and explore the Île de la Cité, the heart of historic Paris. Don't forget to walk along the Seine and enjoy the atmosphere.
  • Evening: Montmartre and Sacré-Cœur - Take a trip to Montmartre, known for its artistic history. Climb up to the Sacré-Cœur Basilica for a beautiful view of the city at sunset. Explore the charming streets of Montmartre and consider having dinner at a local bistro.

Day 3: Parisian Culture

  • Morning: Palace of Versailles - If you have a strong interest in history and art, consider taking a day trip to the Palace of Versailles. It's about an hour outside Paris and offers a glimpse into the opulent life of the French monarchy.
  • Lunch: Return to Paris for lunch - Enjoy a meal at a Parisian cafe or restaurant.
  • Afternoon: Musée d'Orsay or Orangerie - Spend your afternoon at the Musée d'Orsay, known for its impressive collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art. Alternatively, you can visit the Musée de l'Orangerie, which houses Monet's famous Water Lilies.
  • Evening: Seine-Side Dining - End your trip with a memorable dinner at a restaurant along the Seine River. Many of these restaurants offer exquisite French cuisine with a view of the illuminated landmarks.

I just simply soaking in the Parisian ambiance, these three days should provide a lovely mix of experiences in the City of Light.
